Today’s youth are facing more than what we see on the surface. Behind the selfies and social feeds are untold stories of broken families, poverty, homelessness, abuse, addiction, and violence—real issues threatening their mental health, identity, and future.
This October, during National Crime Prevention Month, Camp C.H.O.I.C.E proudly presents the 3rd Annual 2025 Youth Right to Life Retreat—a powerful weekend of healing, mentorship, leadership, and life-affirming empowerment. While this is our third YRTL retreat, we’ve been hosting transformative Weekend Camps since 2011. It’s more than a getaway—it’s a lifeline.
"My children and I absolutely LOVE Camp C.H.O.I.C.E! My son Kalin attended the Game of Life Weekend with Ms. Janay and came back excited, inspired, and eager to return. He made lasting friendships and memories. My daughter also had a powerful experience traveling to East St. Louis with Camp C.H.O.I.C.E to speak on youth impacted by gun violence—she was hesitant at first, but so glad she went." - Kiphanie Scott

Facing the Crisis: Empowering Our Youth Toward a Brighter Future
Today’s youth—our most vulnerable and valuable generation—are navigating a landscape filled with daunting challenges. From broken homes and poverty to abuse, addiction, and even incarceration, these obstacles threaten not only their present well-being but their future potential.
According to ChildHelp.org, over 3.6 million reports of child abuse are filed annually in the U.S., impacting more than 6.6 million children. Each day, an average of four to seven children tragically lose their lives due to abuse or neglect. These numbers are more than statistics—they represent lives in crisis and a call to action.
Here in Kansas City, the urgency is especially real. With 144 homicides recorded in 2024, the city continues to grapple with rising violence. Alarmingly, nearly 1 in 10 victims is under the age of 17, underscoring the critical need for intervention and community-based solutions (DailyHomicideAnalysis).
By building a stronger, more connected community rooted in wellness and purpose, we can help our youth reclaim their lives and futures. Together, we can break the cycle of violence and neglect—ensuring that no child is left behind in the pursuit of safety, dignity, and opportunity.
